Reachability and Boundedness in Time-Constrained MSC Graphs∗

چکیده
Channel boundedness is a necessary condition for a message-passing system to exhibit regular, finite-state behaviour at the global level. For Message Sequence Graphs (MSGs), the most basic form of Highlevel Message Sequence Charts (HMSCs), channel boundedness can be characterized in terms of structural conditions on the underlying graph. We consider MSGs enriched with timing constraints between events. These constraints restrict the global behaviour and can impose channel boundedness even when it is not guaranteed by the graph structure of the MSG. We show that we can use MSGs with timing constraints to simulate computations of a two-counter machine. As a consequence, even the more fundamental problem of reachability, which is trivial for untimed MSGs, becomes undecidable when we add timing constraints. Different forms of channel boundedness also then turn out to be undecidable, using reductions from the reachability problem.

Technical Report No. UniTS-DI3.2001.1 Robust Minimum-time Constrained Control of Nonlinear Discrete-Time Systems: New Results
This work is concerned with the analysis and the design of robust minimum-time control laws for nonlinear discrete-time systems with possibly non robustly controllable target sets. We will show that, given a Lipschitz nonlinear transition map with bounded control inputs, the reachability properties of the target set can be used to assess the existence of a robust positively controllable set whi...
متن کاملDecidable Classes of Unbounded Petri Nets with Time and Urgency
Adding real time information to Petri net models often leads to undecidability of classical verification problems such as reachability and boundedness. For instance, models such as Timed-Transition Petri nets (TPNs) [22] are intractable except in a bounded setting. On the other hand, the model of TimedArc Petri nets [26] enjoys decidability results for boundedness and control-state reachability...
متن کاملSymbolically Bounding the Drift in Time-Constrained MSC Graphs
Verifying systems involving both time and concurrency rapidly leads to undecidability, and requires restrictions to become effective. This paper addresses the emptiness problem for time-constrained MSC-Graphs (TC-MSC graphs for short), that is, checking whether there is a timed execution compatible with a TC-MSC graph specification. This problem is known to be undecidable in general [11], and d...

متن کاملPolynomial-time Many-one Reductions for Petri Nets
We apply to Petri net theory the technique of polynomial-time many-one reductions. We study boundedness, reachability, deadlock , liveness problems and some of their variations. We derive three main results. Firstly, we highlight the power of expression of reachability which can polynomially give evidence of unboundedness. Secondly, we prove that reachability and deadlock are polynomially-time ...
